National Grating fiberglass Square mesh panels are ideal for decking, walkway, and flooring applications in corrosive environments.

1.5″ Square Mesh Grating is the long-lasting solution for rugged applications. Steel and aluminum grating have considerable down-sides; they corrode, wear down quickly, cause maintenance headaches and downtimes, and are costly to install.

National Grating high-strength molded FRP grating can be designed and used like traditional metal grates, but with all the many benefits of fiberglass. 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ Square FRP grating is especially useful for replacing steel grating or aluminum grating in corrosive environments or where other types of gratings require frequent replacements. Resin Systems
National Grating Molded Fiberglass is available in two standard resin systems. Each providing different levels of corrosion protection. Both resin systems meet Class 1 Flame Spread Rating per ASTM E-84 test standards.

Polyester: A premium-grade isophthalic polyester resin system that provides excellent corrosion protection. Standard colors: Dark Gray, Light Gray, Yellow, and Green

Vinyl ester: A chemically resistant system that provides the highest level of corrosion protection. Standard colors: Yellow, Dark Gray, and Orange

Molded FRP Mesh is available in 1″, 1-1/2″ and 2″ thick Panels.

Standard Panel sizes are 3′ x 10′, 4′ x 8′, 4′ x 12′ and 5′ x 10′.

We can cut down the panels to any size you like, or you can cut them yourself. Be sure to use a diamond-tip blade as a standard saw blade will dull very quickly.

How to Cut Fiberglass Grating

Cutting FRP Grating is easy if you do it right. You can use the same saws used for cutting wood, to cut FRP. They key is to use a diamond tip blade. If you try to use a regular blade to cut fiberglass grating, it will dull very quickly.

This video shows how to cut FRP Grating safely using a standard skill saw.

Be Safe When You Cut FRP Grating

These safety tips are very important. When cutting FRP, you should saw a little slower that you would normally cut wood. If you try to cut too fast, the saw blade might get jammed. There will be quite a bit of fiberglass dust, so be sure to use a mask with a proper fiberglass filter. If you don’t have a ventilation system, a fan will help direct the dust away from you.

You can cut curves and angles in fiberglass grating the same way. You can use a reciprocating saw or a jig-saw. Again, the key is to use a diamond-tip blade.

When you cut FRP grating, the general rule is that you have to re-seal it with polyurethane. You can pick up a can of polyurethane spray at any paint store. However, some of the varieties of grating we sell at National Grating have a polymer composition that is so durable, re-sealing may not be required in some applications. The best type of FRP grating for swimming pools and waterparks is T-1800 Pultruded Grating. This profile provides lots of surface area to make walking on in bare-feet very comfortable. We use a mild grit on our pool grating that provides enough traction to prevent slipping, without being too coarse.

We add a UV coating to our Fiberglass Pool Grating to protect the color from fading due to the chlorine or sunlight.

Most of the molded FRP Grating we sell goes into industrial settings such as waste-water treatment plants. Guys with work-boots need strong, anti-corrosive grating with a coarse grit to provide traction.

Molded-Grating for too coarse Swimming pool applications

Molded Grating —Molded Fiberglass Grating with 1-1/2″ Squares – is NOT suitable for bare feet

For swimming pools and waterparks, large open mesh types of grating are far too coarse to walk on with bare feet. The 1.5″ square mesh pattern creates a 1-1/4″ square open area which is not comfortable to walk on without work-boots.

This Swimming Pool Grating with Yellow Nosing is much easier on the feet and has a high visibility yellow band.

T-1800 Pool Grating comes in 1″ or 1.5″ thick.

T-1800 Grating comes in Light Gray or white. The nosing which runs along the leading edge of each stair can be white, Gray, or yellow.
