Heavy Duty Fiberglass Grating

Heavy Duty Grating

Heavy Duty Grating is used to covers areas with heavy traffic. We offer both Pultruded  Heavy Duty (HD) Grating and High Load Capacity (HLC) Molded Grating. Heavy duty grating is typically selected when the application involves vehicular traffic rather than standard foot traffic. Standard grating is more often chosen for pedestrian use and cost savings, while heavy duty grating is chosen for higher load requirements. National Grating offers heavy duty options for customers who need corrosion resistance and structural performance in industrial traffic areas, trench covers, and similar demanding applications.

Our High Load Capacity (HLC) molded grating is heavy duty, corrosion-resistant and low-maintenance. It’s engineered to carry heavy traffic liketrucks and forklifts. Our molded HLC FRP Grating is available in 4′ x 6′ panels  1.5″ or 2″ deep in Polyester or Vinyl ester resin systems. HLC grating  has many advantages over steel grating for performance and cost effectiveness. With a much higher strength-to-weight ratio, molded HLC fiberglass grating is easy to handle, making for quick installation.

HLC grating is specifically designed for trenches with heavy traffic such as forklifts or large trucks. The attached HLC data shows standard heavy duty molded grating options in 1.5″ x 1″ x 2″ rectangular grid and 2″ x 1″ x 2″ rectangular grid configurations, both with 48% open area and 1″ bar centers. 1.5″ deep HLC grating can withstand a 5,000-pound concentrated load with very little deflection, while 2″ deep HLC grating is even stronger and can span wider trenches. Compared with steel, HLC fiberglass grating is corrosion resistant, non-conductive, fire retardant, and designed to avoid permanent deformation under heavy pressure in the way steel often can.

Molded Grating Resin Systems

National Grating Fiberglass Trench and Drain Grates are available in two standard resin systems. Each providing different levels of corrosion protection. Both resin systems meet Class 1 Flame Spread Rating per ASTM E-84 test standards.

Polyester and vinyl ester resin systems allow heavy duty grating to be matched to the corrosion conditions of the project, from general industrial environments to more aggressive chemical exposures.

Polyester: A premium-grade isophthalic polyester resin system that provides excellent corrosion protection. Standard colors: Dark Gray, Light Gray, Yellow, and Green. Equivalent to Fiberglass Grating Competitor Brand and Strongwell Duragrate PP.

Vinyl ester: A chemically resistant system that provides the highest level of corrosion protection. Standard colors: Yellow, Dark Gray, and Orange. Equivalent to Fiberglass Grating Vinyl Ester and Strongwell Duragrate VE.

Common Sizes and Applications

Common sheet sizes for FRP grating include: 4’x8′, 4’x12′, and 3’x10′. Common thicknesses include: 1″, 1.5″ and 2″. For heavy duty HLC molded grating specifically, it is available in 4′ x 6′ panels.

Our molded FRP gratings have applications in many industries, including:

  • chemical processing
  • food & beverage
  • marine
  • oil & gas
  • power
  • manufacturing
  • construction
  • pharmaceutical
  • metals & mining
  • pulp & paper
  • recreation
  • water parks
  • telecommunications
  • IT server farms
  • shipping centers
  • transportation facilities
  • water & waste treatment, and
  • numerous architectural uses.

Heavy duty grating is especially relevant in applications where forklifts, service vehicles, or truck traffic must cross over corrosive environments or trench openings. Common heavy duty use cases include trench covers, utility crossings, loading and service areas, and other industrial traffic locations where standard pedestrian grating is not appropriate.

Strong, Lightweight and Corrosion-Resistant
Molded FRP Grating has the strength of steel, but it won’t corrode like steel can. FRP is a smart alternative in environments where steel will rust, especially when heavy traffic and corrosion resistance are both part of the design requirement.

Safer Walking Surface for Trench Covers and Fiberglass Walkways
A coarse, gritted epoxy coating enhances traction. In addition to traction, fiberglass grating also helps reduce vibration and clatter compared with steel when driven over.

Support and Stability
Molded Fiberglass Grating Panels are equally strong in both directions. Heavy duty configurations are engineered to support higher concentrated and uniform loads than standard pedestrian grating options.

Easy Fabrication
FRP Flooring Panels are lightweight, easy to transport, and can be cut and fabricated using standard hand tools. Panels can be cut to size using a skill saw or table saw with a diamond tip blade.

Extended Life
The coated resin surface increases resistance to chemical corrosion and continuous UV exposure. This combination of corrosion resistance, low maintenance, and long service life is one of the main reasons many customers choose heavy duty fiberglass grating over steel in harsh industrial environments.

molded fiberglass grating has superior radio frequency transparency to steel. Use molded fiberglass grating from National Grating to protect your wifi network and cellular telephone signals.

This product meets required frp specs Molded Fiberglass Grating Radio Frequency Transparency

In today’s connected world, we depend on cellular telephone signals, Wi-Fi networks and over the air radio and television signals. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity are essential to on-site work environments. Steel structures significantly disrupt these signals. Molded Fiberglass grating is an essential part of FRP building structures that are “electronically transparent” and do not interfere with radio frequency transmissions.
